who here has broken bones of late? I'd like to compare notes on how long it took you to heal.

I broke my wrist lat Sunday. I am tediously typing with my left hand, which is fortunately better coordinated than I thought. I cant use my right hand at all--the fingers are swollen and it hurts to move them. Obviously, my right hand (and arm) is in a hard, heavy cast.

So, my doctor has been a posterior orifice of a horse about time frames as towhen I can expect to be able to work again--I cant type with my left hand for more than a few minutes wiyhout being exhausted and continually hitting the wrong keys. :(

If anyone here has broken anything of late, could you share your experiences, and, most interestingly, how long it took for you to be able to use the affected body part for basic work tasks?

thanks,
Electra

You are young and will heal quickly if your Dr. is a good one. Don't try to go back to work if you have to use that hand. Your wrist is better than your ankle, it is closer to your heart and heals quicker, I would expect 6 weeks. If it hurts anytime, get it on a pillow raised above your heart, as the blood runs out of it the swelling will go down and it will hurt less. Tell him the pain is so bad I need Morphine. Shoot for the moon and take what he gives you. If you don't need them they may come in handy later. Other than that take it easy, don't hurt yourself again until it's healed.

I was hit from the front on my Harley while at the beach. I ruined my knee, broke my leg and pulled a ligament. I was on and off crutches for one and a half years. In traction for 21 days before surgery the in a cast for six weeks. Two surgeries later I was still on crutches. During the operation I was allowed to come too and raised up and fell off the table. Accidents happen, but this one really did bother me. Also, I lost my job.

Let's hope and pray for a quick recovery. Otherwise, visit friends, relatives, go to the movies and enjoy your man, catch up on your reading. My Dr. said a break is natures way of telling you to slow down.

Sorry, can't help you there. Fortunately, I have never broken a bone. Sending good thoughts and healing.

May your bones knit quickly and properly. I have not had a fracture of any of my bones, but my poor mother has had a spiral leg fracture and is dealing with months of healing and rehab.

I had broken a finger one time. It got quite swollen and I couldn't bend the finger past 45 degrees. It took a couple of months to heal to the point where I didn't feel pain doing everyday tasks with it.

i'm sorry you are hurting......I have broken my wrist twice...and two knuckles in my right hand......

....did they have to do surgery to repair the break?.....if so, it will probably be 6-8 weeks before you will be back to 100%...you may still have some residual pain until the hand gains it strength back.....

the first time i broke my wrist i was teaching highschool....it was difficult to write assignments on the board.....but, eventually i muddled through writing with my other hand.....

hope your recovery is swift and as painless as possible...HUGS...
