So...would you make fun of me?

After several years of working a 9 -5 job I am interested in going to massage school. I am feel a little sheepish and scared that people will make fun of me for leaving a corporate career...but I can't stop thinking about working in a spa!

Exactly who are "these" people that are going to make fun of you? You do what you want to do with your life. You have to live it. If that's what you want to do then, by all means, go for it. If you don't like it, you can always go back to corporate America. Even if you decide you don't like it, every guy you date is going to love getting a backrub from you. Good skill to have :-)

I can't imagine making fun of somebody for that. I think it sounds like a great move and have even thought about massage school myself. The spa industry is growing! And, no matter how much success you've had in the corporate world, there's never any guarantee...for anybody.. that it will continue. And most importantly, you should do what makes you happy.

As long as you can pay the bills....whose business is it anyway---beside yours?

YES!!!! I would make fun of you for not doing what you truly desire. So many people live in misery and denial all their life because they haven't done what they wanted. I'm 26 and have done everything i have ever dreamed. And yes, it's a sweet feeling. The American Dream is just a soul robbing contract. Do what you like, love everyday of it, and never look back.

It shouldn't matter what other people think. At the end of the day all that matters is that you're happy. If you've found a career you're happy with and enjoy going to work every day you're doing a lot better than those who may have fancier titles or make more money.

It won't be any time at all, before you can STOP thinking about it.

Truth is that is pays NOTHING. It will get old very soon, when you do not have the money necessary to feed yourself.

I would do this more for extra spending money, rather than a career option.

That's ok, but don't quit your day job. Massage work is long and difficult and sometimes people are not clean and they smoke and they fart and they cry and all kinds of things. Make sure this is something you want to do.

Maybe shadow someone for a day or two and see what they think of it. It's wonderful work, but it does not pay all that well and you may not get benefits. If you don't work, you won't get paid. People cancel and don't call or they don't show or all kinds of things.

So look into and see if it really is for you as a career or as a side hobby for a few extra bucks here and there.

just remember to take into consideration the benefits that you would be throwing away. I am not saying that changing jobs is a bad idea, but... it normally takes 5 or sometimes 10 years to develop tenure at a 9-5 organization which allows you medical coverage when you get old. YOU NEED THAT.
