Pasta, sugar, rice and bread.......

We have been told that eating these 'white' products are bad for us..... do you eat white pasta, sugar, rice and bread? Or do you substitute healthier options?

Our family does still eat them, but---only part of the time.

Update: February 11, 2012.
Wow...thanks for ALL the responses. Food is serious business!! :)

I eat whole wheat pasta,no sugar at all, brown rice and whole grain bread. They all taste better anyway. Splenda et al taste as good as sugar to me.

I am 39 and eat what ever I want, drink a lot of alcohol, and only weigh 186 and am 5'9" tall. I work out frequently and am very active. My cholesterol is only 130. It is not what you eat, but what you do. Eating too much will make you fat and unhealthy but if you exercise frequently and eat what you want, but not to excess, it does not matter.

Strangely, I crave sugar for energy.
I can be barely moving, and let me have something with sugar and I become filled with natural energy.
I love pasta, and also eat rice and bread.

No wheat (it's been so hybridized, it's no longer a natural food source), no sugar and no corn or corn byproducts ( which is often in many food products without you realizing it) ... Consider all to be toxic to the body. Any pasta made from wheat products also on this list.

Whole rice is the best, highly digestible. You should, also, consider changing your diet to prevent eating foods with different digestion rates - like eating vegetables with similar coloring which will digest at the same rate - aiding digestion and helps prevent gastro illnesses.

I try to avoid white carbs as well as sugar and dairy. I do like whole grain breads, but don't care for the whole grain type of pasta and rice, so I gave it up altogether.

My diet has become very restrictive lately.

Grains in general and refined grains in particular are not what our bodies evolved to consume. For 99% of human existence, we've consumed meat, preferably with lots of fat, along with berries and nuts and some vegetables. Most of the fruit we have today has been hybridized for maximum fructose, so it's not exactly an improvement.

I eat a lot of pasta. They provide complex carbohydrates and that is a good thing.

I only use sugar with iced tea and I use real sugar when I use it. One teaspoon of real sugar (something natural that my body can matabolize) is better than an teaspoon of artificial chemicals that artificial sweetners provide.

I eat rice, but alway with something healthy on top of it. and I eat a lot of bread but always whole wheat.

I try to substitute them for whole grains or other healthier options as much as I can - but I'm not super strict about it.
It IS possible to lose or maintain weight while still enjoying a little bit of white carb indulgence. People have done it for years. Carbs and carb type matter, but more important is the overall calorie intake to calorie burn ratio. If you're sedentary but eating too many whole grain, protein or other "ideal" calories, you're not going to be in good shape.
