My mother was raised in Australia, where she learned to make leg of lamb roasted with potatoes like I have never ever had since by any other cook. It was truly wonderful, and when I met my husband it was his favorite dish too from her. She used to give me the small shank bone as a treat when it was ready. It was a perfect size "chop" for a child to have an appetizer. I miss my mother and her leg of lamb dinners. We have tried, but it doesn't come out quite the same.

My grandma's pot roast is freaking awesome. Me and my mom can't figure out how she gets her carrots to taste so damn good. Her homemade cheese biscuits are my other favorite. She's an awesome cook. My favorite thing my mom makes is her broccoli and chicken casserole. Now I make it and ours tastes identical.

My father made the best macaroni and chees. My mom was famous for her pasteles and arroz con gandules with pernil, for Christmas or New Year's Eve (Puerto Rican meat dumplings, rice and pigeon peas, and roast pork).I have given up eating both because I get sick when I have pork, and I cannot have too many carbs these days.

I love my mom, she's a great cook and she is the one who inspired me to cook. But I'm now a better cook than her, and anything she can make, I can make better - thats not arrogance or disrespecting my mother, its the simple truth, all my family members agree - I AM the "family chef" now...
