Do some people really believe their own lies?

Or do they say them for effect? For what purpose would that be?

Serious answers please.

Could you give an example of a lie that someone would choose to believe, and how you would know it's a lie and that they believe it?

Yes, people do tend to believe their own lies. Once something is said repeatedly and is a lie, it becomes GOSPEL TRUTH!

People would rather believe a lie rather the actual truth.

I think everyone has their reasons for what they believe...some times it's a matter of motivation. I don't believe lies are good or any good can come from them.

I believe, people know their own truths,
which may not be "everyone else's truth"

People lie in court all the time. They convince themselves that it is true, else they will not be convincing to a judge.

The judge's job is to try to determine who the liar really is.

The other side has to prove the lie.

Perjury (lies under oath) happens every single day in this country. Usually for monetary gain. What other purpose would there be? Even murder is usually about money.

Lots of people lie to themselves to cope with failures and insecurities in life. Sometime lying to yourself can be good, though. When I go through one of my depressive phases, I tell myself that it's a beautiful day, I'll try my best to look nice, and I'll SMILE when I don't want to smile. Eventually, you start to believe you're happy.
