Anyone else a fanatic about their personal space?

Rant! Last night I was at the gym...I was the only person in the whole place. Then this chick came in and hopped on the weight machine right next to me. WTF? The *entire gym* was empty except for me, she could've chosen any machine she wanted, and she had to take the one practically on top of me? WHY?

I always try to leave people some personal space and I'll intentionally start on a machine that is as far away from other people as possible unless the gym is packed crowded. I was so ticked off at that gal last night, it nearly ruined my work-out.

I am the same way about standing in lines or choosing a seat in a movie theater. Unless a place is extremely crowded, and there's no room at all, I will NOT stand or sit right next to someone, and try to respect their personal space, as well as mine. I can't be alone on this one, can I?

I need my personal space too. I have to take a bus and when someone sits next to me when half the bus is empty, it wigs me out. And if I have to make small talk, well that's another story...

Eh wrong. The other machine is outside of your supposed personal space. You are too old to be this childish.

Damn, girl! You rarely post questions, so this must have really bothered you. lol

You know what? It creeps me out. It's just...weird. It bugs me when I'm in line at the supermarket and people stand too close. It reminds me of the opening scene of a horror movie. :-)

maybe your idea of personal space and her idea are totally differnt....at the gym I'll go to which ever machine I need at the time...in the movie theater I'll try and put a couple of chairs between us....now in the mens restroom.....I make huge personal space.....

I wouldn't let it ruin my workout....you could have easily got up and moved.....

I think if you're in a public place and there is no personal space in that respect. We just know what should and shouldn't do in that regard but we can't blame them for interfere our privacy since there is really no privacy space in public places.

I guess the chick felt lonely since there was only 2 of you and just wanted some company, I would just move to another machine and hopefully she will get it...next time!

That's why *understanding* attribute is powerful in any relationships or acquaintances.

Peace

She did choose the one she wanted and it so happened to be right next to you. I understand what you are saying but you really have no claim on the machines other than the one you are using. When I was into weight lifting I had a very specific order that I would lift in order to work the biggest muscle groups for that section of the body first so that I could stress the small fibers around it more easily as I went along.

I'm fanatical about my personal space and I don't want people sitting at my desk or touching anything on my desk without my permission.

I could have written this ....! Same same same!!!

I need a big cushion of personal space where ever i am, and I would have gone to the other side of the gym, were it me. Your not alone, trust me. But it can be hard to cope when you get into busy times, with a lot of people around...try to cope with it, some times it's easier than others.
