Now that H1N1 is everywhere...

Do you think that people are washing their hands more, or are there still the ones who leave the bathroom without washing their hands?

Update: November 19, 2009.
Just a follow up to Glasgobelle's response. It was on the news the other night, that some people are substituting hand sanitizers for hand washing. A doctor said that is not a good thing. There are bacteria on our hands that survive without air and so they are still on our hands and only washing out hands can get rid of them.

some people may wash their hands more...BUT, i believe much of what you said in the latter still occurs! there's even a DOCTOR where i work who supposedly, in front of other colleagues, did NOT wash his hands after using the bathroom!

I noticed in public restrooms that the women that wash their hands are washing them longer and about the same amount of nasties that never did are still just walking out the door.

I think those of us that were already hand washers are washing more. The rest of the swine are doing as they always do.

Plenty of people still don't. I honestly don't think people are doing a better job of being sanitary.

I've been more conscious of thoroughly washing my hands throughout the day. I use hand sanitizers also, but they are definitely not a substitute for hand washing with warm water and soap.

I think that people are washing thier hands about the same. The people who never washed their hands before leaving the bathroom are probably still not washing thier hands. I think it takes more than a flu epidemic to change someone's hand washing frequency.

No, I don't think they are more careful at all. At my university library work place just tonight I used the ladies room two times in my shift. Both times I heard a girl go in the stall next to me, and walk out the door. also the soap and water scrubbing is way better than purel type products, it's proven that the act of vigorous scrubbing is what removes most of the germs, not rubbing in alcohol, but it's good in a pinch. I clean the counters at my area, mice, arms of chairs, everying a couple of times a shift with lysol or clorox wipes, and keep hands away from face and mouth.

No I don't think they are washing their hands anymore than they did before and they sometimes don't even use hand sanitizers...as for myself, I am finding that I'm washing them more and reminding my children to do so too...don't know if it's because of H1N1 but I do know I don't want to get sick...:D

As answered, hand sanitizers don't work as the flu is a virus, not a bacteria. I've been trying to wash my hands (in soap and water) for at least 20 seconds. Not only palms and backs of hands, but each indivdual finger. That will get most of germs off. I always follow with a good lotion so my dry skin doesn't crackle off.

I think that some people are washing their hands more, but many do not. I work in an office and I see just how well my co-workers wash their hands, and, I am absolutely disgusted. I always use a paper towel to open the bathroom door when I leave the bathroom because I don't want to get the germs on my hands.

Some co-workers simply rinse their hands without even using soap. Others put soap on and then immediately rinse their hands. Few wash their hands well.

Also, many people don't cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing. It really bugs me. And some people come to work sick. I found out a few days ago that a woman who sits in a cubicle next to mine had swine flu a month ago and she came to work every day.

I have been washing my hands a lot and have been wiping my desk 3 times a week with disinfecting wipes.

They are also now saying that H1N1 is being over reported. They do not bother to test to see if it is flu, just assume that any cold and flu symptoms are from H1N1, and now they are discovering a large percentage of those assumed to be H1N1 are normal flu or common colds. Guess what for the kids, tamaflu does not help with the common cold.
The only anger here is that some people assume they have contracted H1N1, and do not take the vacine when it is available to them believing they have the antibodies now and they don't.
Isn't the gov't handling of this mess just so reassuring that they can handle anything!!!!!!
