I am a foster mom to an old dog from the shelter I help out.

Have you ever fostered a dog or cat?

Update: November 03, 2009.
I have mine for life.He goes nuts in a cage and everyone thinks he is that way in the home.He is the calmest dog. There are many you can have for life.No vet or food bills.Just free love.

As the mom of 2 cats rescued from the ASPCA( I hate to say I own something living! ) and a 3rd I'm watching for my daughter, I say this: when she comes back for her cat, I plan to give my home to another animal.

GOD BLESS YOU FOR GIVING OF YOURSELF TO THOSE MOST HELPLESS!

P.S.: for those reluctant to foster becuase you get attached & "have" to give them up, who says you have to?
rescue societies would be more than delighted if you gave 1 or more a permmanent home with you!

I could not foster an animal knowing I would have to give it up sooner or later. I get waaay too attached to my animals.

No. I don't have what it takes to give them away once I become attached. 2 of my 3 dogs are from homes that no longer wanted them and the owners were planning on bringing them to a shelter. I acquired 2 pure white kittens last week. Someone left a box containg 6 all white, and 1 black and white kittens behind the local convience store. I just happened to be there when the store owner found them and brought them around front. I got my daughter to adopt one so we saved 3 out of the 7. The next day the store owner told me that the remaining 4 went home with people who stopped at the store.

No. I put my time and energy and money I would use to help an animal to help a fellow human being. Its sad how much money and energy goes to help animals instead of people and the starving.

I have a dog and two cats all rescued, we tend to rescue older pets and when they go, we go for another one, that is not a shallow as it sounds, it just means an older pet gets a good life at the end.,., and causes lots of tears from me, everything it happens I say its not going to happen again

I can't do it much anymore because of my family obligations and because I have a house full of pets myself, but I used to foster abandoned kittens and puppies all the time. It's such a joy to have a house full of little puppies running around getting into mischief and I miss it...lol

I do however still pick up every single stray animal I come across and take him/her to our local no-kill animal shelter. Every animal deserves a loving home and I've made it my goal to make that happen for as many as possible in the course of my lifetime. I also have my husband picking them up too, although he tries to pretend he doesn't like it I know he feels good doing it. lol

All my cats have either come from an animal shelter, or were Feral, or in a position where they would have been possibly put to sleep.

I'm not into the *Cooooooooooooooooooooo l* pet thing where it has to have papers. I just loike their love and companionship.
