SAM-MUN or SAL-MON...How do you pronounce Salmon?

I always have a hard time. I pronounce it Sam-mun. But I hear alot of people saying it with the "L". What is the right way?

salm·on (sam'?n) or [sam-uhn]

the "L" is silent.

The only time I've heard it pronounced with the "L" is when the word is someone's proper name.

I do not pronouce the L when I say salmon.

I say sam-mon. But as long as the fish monger or seafood restaurant waiter understands me....who cares?. lol

Not sure as it depends on your local accent. Kind of a tomato question really. I'll admit I repeated salmon outloud several times and discovered I don't pronounce the L if that means anything.
