does anyone know how to remove odor from polyester

i have a favorite pair of navy slacks that are polyester and they stink; the polyester has retained the odor; washing has not removed it

Try washing them again and put some 1/4 cup of baking soda in the wash. If they are your favorite, it's worth a try. :)

no offense...but just throw the damn things away.

You don't "need" them. Their day is DONE.

The baking soda thing will not work on polyester. UPS had a problem with a fella with poor hygiene and they offered to bear the expense of cleaning his uniforms as he insisted he couldn't get the smell out....they couldn't either..and they had professionals attack it. Once soil smells get into polyester it don't come out...in fact alot of fabrics are like that. If its synthetic and you can't get it out with a heavy detergent or something like fabreeze than you need to just throw them away. Try to decide how they got that way and alter that so it doesn't happen with new pants.

Did you try an oxi-type cleaner? Other than that, lemon-based detergent or soak in a warm sink bath with baking soda. Polyester is plastic, basically, so once an odor gets in it, it will be difficult to get out. Try hanging them outside on a dry, sunny day - that may help.
