Where did the term "cougar" come from? An older woman who dates younger men?

If a woman is a cougar, then what is a man that dates younger women called?
Do younger men who date older women turn them into cougars?

A "cougar" is a woman who dates younger men. "Jaguar" and "tiger" are more svelte animals and therefore our misogynistic society does not want to associate them with women who go out and get what they want. Such women are still a threat, so they're called by a name of a threatening but not particularly beautiful cat.

But any man who is able to date more than one woman is a "don juan" regardless of age.
